Hey there,

What’s lighting you up right now?

Not a goal, exactly. Not a moonshot. Just a thing, even a small one, that brings you a bit of joy. Something you signed up for, or trained for and finally finished. Something you’ve been quietly putting extra energy into lately, for no reason other than it lights you up.

There’s a commercial I saw a few years back that I’ve never quite shaken. An older man starts training with a kettlebell. Badly, at first. He can barely move the thing, and the neighbors watch him like he’s lost it. But he keeps at it. Every day. A little stronger each time, and you have no idea why he’s bothering.

Then it’s Christmas, and he’s at his family’s place, and you find out what all of it was for. He bends down, picks up his granddaughter, and lifts her so she can reach the top of the tree and put the star on.

That’s the whole thing.

I think about that ad more than I’d probably admit. Not because of the training. Because of what was underneath it. He wasn’t chasing a number or a finish line. He had one small thing he wanted to be able to do, and it was for someone he loved.

So I’ll ask you the same thing I asked the folks who get this in their inbox. What’s yours? The thing lighting you up right now, big or small. I’d love to know. I read and reply to what comes back, and I mean it: I’d like to hear what’s got your attention these days. You can always reach me.
